Red Hat ha annunciato la disponibilità della distribuzione commerciale Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3, terzo update della release 5 di Red Hat Enterprise Linux, che offre agli utenti, oltre alle versioni più aggiornate del migliore software Open Source, prestazioni più evolute nell'ambito della virtualizzazione, il supporto dei nuovi processori Intel Core i7 (Nehalem) e la dotazione nativa di OpenJDK, una implementazione Open Source di Java SE 6. Più in dettaglio, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 è sempre più idoneo per la realizzazione di server virtuali: questa release può gestire infatti fino a 32 CPU virtualii, con tutti i vantaggi connessi alla riduzione dei costi che questa feature assicura. Inoltre, questa distribuzione è in grado di supportare e di avvalersi in pieno delle nuove funzionalità dei processori Nehalem di Intel, tra cui il power management e l'hyperthreading.
